For over seven years, New Light Guest House has provided an open, affordable artist's residency. Located across a cornfield from New Light Studios, the guest house has the unique position of being on fertile artistic soil while still enjoying the rural quietude of southern Wisconsin.
Visual artists, sculptors, dancers, musicians, poets and writers have all spent time creating at New Light Guest House. The house, which was once was home to local dairy workers, has been restored with modern amenities. There are two bedrooms, one bath, and a comfortable living room, complete with a separate kitchen/dining room.
Residents hailing from the US, to locations far as Denmark and Taiwan, have made use of the easel in the living room, turned a bedroom into a recording space, and have written poetry and prose throughout the house.
At New Light Studios, sculptors may go to work in the welding studio and dancers can take advantage of the beautiful dance floor in the barn. Musicians also have use of the "silo," an empty corn silo filled with unique instruments. All visitors are welcome to take a swim in the pool on the grounds of New Light Studio or get involved in a healthy game of longball.
New Light Guest House accepts visitors by the month or week, but is willing to arrange a residency that fits the artist's schedule. This space was conceived for serious artists to find the peace and quiet, and the inspiration, to create great works. It is in this spirit that a fee of $250 per month is suggested, although New Light Studio does not wish for monetary concerns to prevent a visit. Equally negotiable is the the fee for shorter residencies.
